Hello hello! Grace here.

Happy Sunday! Made extra happy by Clarity’s Groovi Sunday 🙂 This week, the brilliant Lynne Jackson has stepped up to the Groovi Plate (see what I did there?) and she’s knocked it out of the park! (I did it again!) 😉

Disclaimer: These are 100% definitely Lynne’s legs

As well as incredibly talented, she’s got a cracking sense of humour, our Lynne. She is best friends with the super Linda Williams and they work together on lots of ideas and projects.

Linda has created an amazing sampler pattern using the more recent additions to the Pergamano Tool range and the lovely Lynne has work her parching magic to create this fab project for you to try.

It really is achievable and is great for practising your parching skills. You may want to just try one of the four squares and make a smaller card.

I’ll hand you over to the pro herself…

Linda Williams has designed this beautiful multi-needle tool pattern for you to be able to create a masterpiece using the latest additions to the Pergamano multi-needle tool family. I hope you enjoy doing this as much as I have.

Getting started

Print off a couple of copies of Linda’s beautiful pattern above, one for your project and one to practice needle placement. This project is worked by placing the parchment over the top of a paper pattern and then using the tools to perforate through the paper into the parchment. Do refer to the photo of the tools to make sure you use the correct one, some are quite similar. You can download the pattern HERE – make sure that you print the pattern actual size so that the tools line up with the dots on the pattern

Try the tools on your practice sheet and find out which you find the most difficult to place accurately, use this one first to avoid ruining your lovely masterpiece to be! If you don’t have all the plates, you can create this card in the traditional way, tracing using a white pencil and then embossing the lines. Likewise, if you don’t yet have one of the multi-needle tools in your stash yet, you can use a single needle tool, but it will be difficult to achieve an even pattern.

There is some fine line freehand embossing around the perforations. This can be done with the single needle bold, the .5mm embossing tool, #1 Groovi tool, or the 1mm embossing tool. Experiment on your practice piece to find out which gives you the best result.

Remember – Perforate on the front and emboss on the back!!!

Step 1

Use the largest die to cut a square (6.25in) from plain parchment. Use the Groovi #1 tool, or the 1mm ball tool and matching square from the picot die set plate to emboss a square close to the picot edge. Use the same tools to emboss the nested scallop square

Step 2

On the back of the parchment, use 1mm tool to emboss a small dot in the centre of the scallops.

Step 3

Working on the back of your parchment, use the single needle bold (or the tool of your choice) to emboss lines from the dots you have just made towards the dots outside the scallops (like the sun’s rays). For best results emboss single lines at the same angle, moving the parchment to keep the angle consistent.

Step 4

Place parchment RIGHT SIDE UP onto the paper pattern. As it’s just a small square, it may be a little lively, so stick it down well. Put the tumble dryer sheet on top of the thin perforating mat and put your work on top. The tumble dryer sheet will lubricate the needles each time you perforate.

Your layers are as follows:
White translucent foam (5mm)
Tumble dryer sheet
Paper pattern (face up)
Parchment (front)

Use the correct multi needle tool to perforate through the parchment into the pattern. Do not perforate deeply, as you will be embossing close to these holes and you need the parchment to stay strong. Start with the tool with which you have the most difficulty.

With a white pencil, very lightly mark the position of the elements you will be embossing from Linda’s plates.

Step 5

Remove the parchment from the paper pattern and on the back of the parchment add details from the plates with 1mm tool, or 1.5mm tool on areas to be embossed (butterfly, flowers and bees).

Step 6

On a scrap piece of parchment, draft your words in white pencil and use the Floral Alphabet plate to emboss. You can then overlay them on the pattern to see how they fit onto your project. This will be your template

Step 7

Use your guide to position the words and emboss on the back.

Step 8

On the front of the work, with a white pencil add in the free hand designs by the needle tools.

Use your practice sheet to perfect your skills

Step 9

On the back, using the biggest embossing tool which will fit, and the excellence embossing mat, start adding layers of embossing, gradually moving down through to the smaller tools.

Step 10

On the back, use #1 Groovi tool, or the 1mm tool to emboss the lines, using the pattern and the final project for reference.

Use a straight edge to emboss the lines in between the section, the Groovi Guard is ideal.

Step 11

On the front, with the thick perforating mat, use the fine single needle tool to reperforate the holes, deeply this time. Also perforate the dots around the scallops and the design from the dragonfly plate.

Your layers are as follows:
White Super Foam (10mm)
Tumble dryer sheet
Parchment (front)

Step 12

Cut a square approximately 2cm larger than the design, from the dark blue parchment from the 2 tone blue pack. Mount onto white card. Stand back and appreciate your masterpiece!
